More savings for more applications
The Volvo D13 Turbo Compound engine now offers fuel savings for a wider variety of applications than ever before. Fleets that run variable load applications, including tanker, bulk haul and flat-bed deliveries, can benefit from Volvo’s next-generation Turbo Compound system. The new D13 with Turbo Compounding captures and harnesses energy typically lost through the exhaust to recover lost horsepower and improve fuel economy.
I-See Predictive Cruise Control
Combine I-Shift with an intelligent cruise control and you get I-See. It's a unique system that learns the topography of the road. Later on, it automatically uses its knowledge to save fuel when the intelligent cruise control is engaged.
Effortlessly splits the wind
The latest VNL update features our most aerodynamic and fuel-efficient package. In fact, it offers up to 7.5% fuel savings* when paired with an aero trailer compared to the previous package. Up above, the roof air deflector complements the cab fairings, keeping the airflow attached and smoothing out costly turbulence between the cab and trailer. Also, the aerodynamic design of our mirror assembly reduces turbulence by attaching air more quickly to the tractor.
I-Shift transmission
Our newest I-Shift makes drivers more productive, using intelligent electronics to continuously monitor grade, speed, weight, and engine load, shifting when necessary or holding a gear-whichever saves more fuel. So regardless of experience or training, I-Shift helps every driver become more fuel-efficient.
Driver information display
At the heart of the new and improved instrument cluster is a five-inch driver display, with improved graphics, works with steering wheel mounted controls to provide key operating parameters, as well access to trip information, performance data, and wide-range of vehicle diagnostics.
Position perfect steering
No two drivers are exactly the same, so we set out to design an optional steering solution that would be exactly the right height and angle, no matter who’s behind the wheel. With a three-way neck tilt, driver’s have an almost endless array of choices for positioning the wheel exactly where they prefer it.
Moving on up
An integrated telescopic ladder is now standard in the VNL 760. Large steps make it easier to get in and out of the top bunk. And the ladder quickly locks in place behind the cabinet when not in use.
An industry first
Volvo is proud to offer the first integrated, reclining bunk in a sleeper. Fully adjustable, it’s like putting your favorite easy chair in the cab. In the VNL 760, the reclining bunk can still efficiently store away to use the optional table top workstation configuration.

I-Shift with Crawler Gears
When steep-grade startability and low-speed maneuverability are critical, the I-Shift with Crawler Gears is the answer for maximum Gross Combined Weight (GCW) loads. The crawler option adds either one or two gears to the I-Shift, a low gear and ultra-low gear, for low-speed control.
The I-Shift with Crawler Gears’ weight capacity is among the industry’s highest for automated manual transmissions. It enables controlled forward and reverse travel at extremely slow speeds, perfect for paving and curbing applications. Upgraded software optimizes shifting for high GCW applications, allowing shifting to occur at higher revs, and enabling drivers to control downshifts.
Next-level protection on the job
Built to exceed the demanding Swedish Cab Safety Test, our high-strength steel (HSS) cabs have the industry’s highest strength-to-weight ratio, protecting the driver by absorbing as much crash energy as possible. Volvo is the only Class 8 manufacturer to make a driver’s side airbag standard equipment in every truck. For added rollover protection, Volvo offers the Rolltek® seat, combining seat belt pre-tensioners, automatic seat lowering to increase survival space, and an integral side airbag that deploys for head and neck protection. Volvo combines advanced engineering with active and passive safety systems, exactly what you’d expect from the inventors of the three-point safety belt.
Taking away tension behind the wheel
The revolutionary Dynamic Steering system is now available on the VHD. VDS offers a safer, more comfortable experience operating on the jobsite. It adds torque to reduce steering strain on the driver at low speed, both in forward and reverse. Over a full day’s drive this means significantly less strain on the driver’s arms, shoulders and neck.
Delivering non-stop performance
The VHD suspension system is designed to deliver the best ride even under the most demanding conditions. Our industry-leading suspension articulation can provide constant ground pressure for greater traction. The standard Volvo T-Ride suspension features trunnion-mounted springs and rubber towers for excellent traction and articulation in off-road conditions.
Built for heavy-duty applications
The rugged VHD bumper features a heavy-duty tow pin and center tow beam, made of 100-ksi steel, that’s rated for a full 80,000 pounds. The bumper fascia is constructed from quarter inch thick, high-strength alloy aluminum and is supported by welded internal bracing. The fascia features a tough, black polyester powder paint finish, while all steel components are covered in urethane paint for extreme corrosion resistance.

Day after day, year after year
When payloads are extreme, smooth and accurate shifts are most critical. Whether running at tare weight or maximum GCW, Volvo’s I-Shift optimizes gear selection to maximize performance and minimize fuel consumption, allowing the driver to remain focused on the surroundings. I-Shift’s close integration with the Volvo powertrain ensures that shifts are made smoothly, at the ideal engine speed, reducing much of the drivetrain and chassis wear typically associated with heavy-haul applications.

Volvo's family of engines builds on a foundation of proven, mature architecture, leveraging innovative hardware to maximize efficiency. Our ultra-reliable Volvo D13 500 hp, 1850 lb-ft delivers the power and torque needed to move large payloads with ease, even on the steep grades.
Durable framerails
VNX framerails (side members) are constructed of 760 MPA heat-treated alloy steel with a yield strength of 120,000 psi. Several combinations of frame rail height, thickness, and liners are available to meet a wide variety of hauling requirements.
Front axles
Volvo steer axles are specifically designed for the demands of heavy-duty applications, with better control, easier handling, and less maintenance. The 16,500-lb. to 20,000-lb. capacity axles are the perfect choice for heavy-duty king pin with a tapered design. The Volvo axle provides improved handling, control and stability, as well as enhanced bearing clearance. The smooth, firm ride is maintained even in tight wheel cuts. A newly designed steering arm allows up to a 40-degree wheel cut with wide-based tires.
Fifth wheel
Fifth wheels on the VNX feature a load capacity of 55,000 lbs. or greater and pull capacity of 150,000 lbs. or greater, ideal for trailer applications from low-boys to b-trains and long combination vehicles.
Brakes
Volvo Heavy Duty Air Disc Brakes offer safety and performance in demanding long haul and vocational applications. A twin piston caliper design gives the VNX more controlled braking and a shorter stopping distance. Volvo Heavy Duty Air Disc Brakes utilize a 17” rotor with high level corrosion resistant calipers, increasing reliability, while working in conjunction with a friction couple (pad/rotor) longevity.

At the heart of the new and improved instrument cluster is a color LCD display. A full five inches wide, it can be configured to provide trip information, performance data, and a wide range of vehicle diagnostics.
Sleep like never before
The VNX lineup now includes a full 70" sleeper option, providing an efficient, yet spacious living area. Volvo is proud to offer the first integrated, reclining bunk in a sleeper. The bunks are broader and more stable, featuring pocketed spring mattresses surrounded by an extra layer of foam.

Volvo Active Driver Assist (VADA)
In the VAH, our collision-avoidance system integrates radar and automatic braking features. VADA monitors for hazards from highway speed down to 15 mph, with the ability to completely stop in emergency braking situations.
Remote start
The optional Remote Start feature allows drivers to start or stop the engine from outside the cab, while the PTO is engaged, using a switch which can be mounted to the rear of the cab. It also includes an in-cab switch on the left side of the dash, which is accessible from the ground. Remote Start provides greater productivity and improved fuel savings.
New LED lighting
The VAH features LED high/low beam headlights for greater visibility and a distinctive new daytime running light. Turn, marker, and parking lamps are all LED powered. The fully sealed headlamp component delivers a brighter, more focused beam. The new design offers more robust bulb life and even includes a de-icing feature for cold weather climates.
